FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that one person was not hurt when a fire broke out Monday night at their Roxanne Drive home. The FWFD says it appears the fire broke out in the kitchen and was under control shortly after firefighters arrived just before 9 p.m.
A working smoke detector alerted the person inside, and they were able to get out before the FWFD had arrived.
The home suffered moderate smoke, water, and fire damage. Investigators are still working on the official cause.
The FWFD released the following:
Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the 6300 block of Roxanne Drive on a reported structure fire. The first units on scene arrived within two minutes of being dispatched. Engine 12 entered the structure and aggressively attacked the fire while Truck 12 searched the duplex for anyone still inside. The lone occupant was alerted by a working smoke detector and evacuated on their own. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters were assisted by FWPD, Neighborhood Code, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, and the 911 Communications Center.
