ANGOLA, Ind. (ADAMS) – A former Steuben County Park Department official is charged with theft, counterfeiting, obstruction of justice, and official misconduct.
Sara Smith is accused of stealing over $44,000 that was collected in campground and facility rental fees between November 15th, 2021 and January 10th, 2025. She resigned as the Steuben County Park Department’s assistant superintendent in January 2025. A state audit found the money was never deposited into the appropriate accounts after officials saw profits were much less than expected.
