FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On Monday, Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker joined Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel at the Community Center to officially launch the 47th Annual Senior Games.
This long-running tradition invites adults ages 50 and older to compete, connect, and celebrate healthy living at locations throughout the city through July 2.
The City released the following:
During the opening ceremony, Mayor Tucker presented a proclamation recognizing the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the lives of older adults through high-quality, inclusive programming.
“Parks and Recreation continues to do an outstanding job of providing opportunities for residents to engage in positive activities and meet new people,” said Mayor Tucker. “I look forward to the Senior Games each year. The events that are offered bring out the best in people and highlight why Fort Wayne is a great place to have fun in a family-friendly setting that’s safe and enjoyable.”
“For 47 years, these Games have encouraged adults to stay active, build friendships and try something new,” said Steve McDaniel, Director of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation. “It’s a time for us to honor the generations who continue to inspire our community through participation, sportsmanship and lifelong wellness.”
“We’re excited to celebrate the Senior Games while also recognizing America’s 250th birthday,” said Community Center Manager Mary Wagner-Stockman. “The Senior Games continue to show that staying active and engaged has no age limit, and it’s not too late to join the fun. Whether you’re competing for the first time or returning for another year, we welcome older adults to be part of this tradition.”
Registration remains open and is accepted up to two business days before each event. Each registration is just $4. While some events like Pickleball may be more physically demanding, many others are accessible to a wide range of interests and abilities, including card games, Shuffleboard, Billiards and Timed Jigsaw Puzzles.
More than 50 volunteers help organize and support the Senior Games each year, making this community event both welcoming and successful. Find details at www.FortWayneParks.org
