FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker, Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel, 5th District Councilman Geoff Paddock, park representatives, and public officials held an event Tuesday to celebrate the reopening of the Headwaters Park Fountain.
It has been closed since 2020 to meet updated public health standards.
The following was released on Tuesday:
The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department formally welcomed back the renovated fountain/splash pad at Headwaters Park Tuesday with a special preview of the feature ahead of the official season that will kick off on Memorial Day weekend. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker, Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel and Fifth District Councilman Geoff Paddock spoke about the significance and support for the fountain’s return.
“The Headwaters Park Fountain is an attractive public space with a neat visual appeal. Amenities like the ones offered at Headwaters Park help position Fort Wayne as a desirable community to live and invest in,” said Mayor Tucker. “I’m grateful that the Parks and Recreation Department assists us in our efforts to be a fun, family friendly, and safe community with an excellent quality of life for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
“Headwaters Park has been one of our city’s greatest gathering places since 1999, and this fountain has played a big part in that,” said 5th District Councilman Geoff Paddock. “Being able to champion the support needed to give it new life was a privilege. What we’re unveiling today is more than an upgrade — it’s a renewed invitation for people to enjoy this space in fresh, vibrant ways. I’m grateful to everyone who came together to make this renovation happen.”
“Today, we’re proud to return this fountain to the people of Fort Wayne — a space that honors the beauty of its original design while meeting modern health standards and introducing new LED lighting that brings fresh life to this beloved park,” said Director Steve McDaniel. “This project, made possible through a true community effort, reflects the best of what can happen when the City Council, the Headwaters Park Alliance Inc. and our residents come together. Nearly half of the $755,782 investment came from the Alliance, with additional support from local income tax funding, Parks Cumulative Capital Funds and ARPA funds as well as generous public donations. We’re deeply grateful for everyone who helped make this renewal a reality.”
Operational hours for the Headwaters Park Fountain will begin on Memorial Day weekend with a 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. schedule Monday to Wednesday, and 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. The alternate hours are based on typical festival activities at Headwaters Park.
