COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (ADAMS) – Northeastern REMC will celebrate Earth Day by hosting its annual Free Tree Giveaway on Wednesday, April 22, beginning at 2 p.m. at its headquarters, 4901 E. Park 30 Drive in Columbia City.
Now in its fifth year, the event is designed to encourage environmental stewardship and give members an opportunity to plant and care for trees in their own communities.
A total of 2,000 trees will be available and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Each Northeastern REMC member may receive up to two trees, with members enrolled in paperless billing eligible for one additional tree.
Tree varieties available this year include white pine, white oak, river birch, sugar maple, shagbark hickory and pecan.
“This is one of our favorite events of the year because it’s a simple way to give back to our members while also investing in the communities we serve,” said Christopher Todd, director of marketing and communications. “Over the years, we’ve been able to put thousands of trees into the ground, and it’s exciting to see the impact that continues to grow.”The event is open exclusively to Northeastern REMC members, and trees must be picked up in person.
This annual event has grown into a tradition, with Northeastern REMC distributing thousands of trees to members over the years.
