UPDATE (February 2, 2026):
City Utilities says that planned maintenance work on the St. Marys River has been postponed due to ice and snow conditions that would not allow crews to safely access the work area.
The work had been scheduled to begin Friday, January 30, 2026, and would have required opening the Tainter Gate at the Hosey Dam to temporarily lower river levels for inspection and maintenance of a pipe near on the St. Marys River.
City Utilities will announce a new schedule once weather and river conditions allow the work to be completed safely.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – You may notice that the St. Marys River is a little lower than usual in the next couple of weeks.
City Utilities says that starting on Friday, January 30, 2026, crews will open the Tainter Gate at the Hosey Dam to temporarily lower the river to provide safe access for crews to inspect and perform maintenance on a pipe near the intersection of Berry and Nelson streets.
The work will take place in the St. Marys River and is expected to last approximately two weeks.
Once maintenance is complete, the gate will be closed, and river levels will be returned to the managed recreational level maintained during most of the year.
