FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that a standoff in a northeast home quickly came to an end Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to the home in Hacienda Village, between Stellhorn and Trier, around 12:30 p.m. for a man in a mental health crisis.
Police say they were told another woman was in the home and that the man may have been armed. The FWPD says its officers made many attempts to get the man to come out, but those were unsuccessful.
The woman was able to leave the home after the Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT), and Air Support Unit (ASU) were called to the scene.
A short time later, the man came out and was taken for evaluation.
The FWPD released the following:
After several more minutes, the man came out of the house unarmed and was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
On 01/22/26 at approximately 12:26 p.m., officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a report of a subject armed with a handgun who was experiencing a mental health crisis. An adult female was also inside the residence. Initial responding officers established communication with the occupants in an effort to peacefully de-escalate the situation.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to resolve the incident, the Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT), and Air Support Unit (ASU) were requested. The CRT established communication with the occupants, resulting in the adult female safely exiting the residence. After several additional minutes of communication, the adult male experiencing the mental health crisis exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody without incident or injury.
The adult male will be transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. There is no threat to the public at this time.
