UPDATE (January 6, 2026):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A 22-year-old man will spend the next 55-years in prison for stealing American Eagle gold coins and shooting and killing the coins’ owner, Roger Swedzinski.
Chavez Gustin pled guilty last month to felony murder and using a stolen gun in the crime, and had murder and burglary charges dropped. Swedzinski was found dead in his basement in Fort Wayne with his gun safe open and valuables scattered.
Gustin tried to pawn the gold coins for a gold bar just two days after the shooting.

UPDATE (August 1, 2025):
ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A 22-year-old man is charged with murder, felony murder, and burglary in Allen County. Chavez Gustin was arrested and charged last evening for the shooting death of Roger Swedzinski.
The victim was killed early Saturday morning near the 700 block of Hathaway Road, and the coroner released his identity on Tuesday.
Swedzinski’s body was found by a friend in his basement, and the friend found that the victim’s gun safe had been left open.

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in an ongoing homicide investigation.
Sometime between the evening hours of Friday, July 25, 2025, and the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, a homicide occurred in the 700 block of Hathaway Road.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in that area during the specified time frame, or who may have other relevant information, to come forward.
