INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Local communities received over $2.5 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Allen County lawmakers.
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, established through a law passed in 2016, offers funding to local communities for road repairs, bridge maintenance, intersection upgrades and other infrastructure projects. Nearly 200 communities received $100 million in state matching grants for this round of funding.
The following was released:
“This matching grant gives us the ability to take on today’s road and bridge projects while preparing our communities for long-term growth,” said State Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne). “Well-maintained roadways are key for everyone’s safety, and investing in infrastructure helps draw new families and businesses to our area.”
Area grant recipients include Allen County ($1 million), Grabill ($560,000) and Woodburn ($962,328).
“Community Crossings Matching Grants give communities the chance to tackle projects they might otherwise have to put on hold,” said State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne). “Well-preserved roads and bridges aren’t just convenient, they’re essential for people to travel safely.”
State Rep. Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne) noted that to be eligible for funding, smaller municipalities must contribute 20 percent in local funds, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. State guidelines also ensure that half of the available matching funds each year are directed to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, the Community Crossings program has invested over $2 billion in enhancing local roads and bridges.
