DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says that one man is in custody after he ran from police Thursday of last week.
On April 25th, a detective who already knew Joshua Hardy’s license was suspended attempted to stop him when he was seen driving in Garett close to North Franklin St. and East High Street.
Police say he took off and eventually crashed with the vehicle rolling into a building. A K-9 officer was released after the crash and Hardy was arrested after he was taken to a hospital for his injuries.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On April 25, 2024, Detective Mathew Haber observed who he knew to be Joshua James Hardy operating a vehicle in the city of Garrett. Detective Haber had prior knowledge that Hardy’s driver’s license was suspended and knew him to have an arrest warrant for unlawfully carrying a handgun. Detective Haber attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Hardy’s vehicle and Hardy failed to stop. Hardy sped up and began disregarding traffic laws. Hardy exited his vehicle while it was still moving and fled from the scene. Hardy’s vehicle rolled into a nearby building and came to a stop. Detective Haber deployed his canine partner, RICO. Canine RICO pursued and apprehended Hardy. Hardy was then taken into custody. Hardy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained by the canine.
Joshua James Hardy was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on a warrant for unlawful carrying of a handgun. This case is still under investigation.
