Bill limiting land buys by foreign interests headed to governor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – State lawmakers have approved a bill that would limit foreign “adversaries” from owning or leasing land.

House Bill 1183 is now headed to the governor’s office. It bars interests that are affiliated with China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela from acquiring or renting agricultural land in Indiana.

That would apply to mineral and water rights, too. Those six countries are on a watch list kept by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
