FORT WAYNE, INd. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says a man is in custody after a violent incident over the weekend.
Police say that 30-year-old Michael Kelso tried to kill a woman when he fired a weapon into a residence at the Colony Bay Apartments on the 6400 block of Covington Road. The FWPD said that the shots nearly hit children inside.
The FWPD says that officers learned that Kelso had fled the scene. They were able to track him to a residence on the 4100 block of Huth Drive off of Aboite Center Road. The FWPD says he tried to get away on foot but officers caught up with him. Police said that he was belligerent and spitting while he was apprehended. Officers also learned that he had several warrants already out for his arrest. He is now facing charges three felony charges and a misdemeanor in this latest incident.

FWPD officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at 6400 Covington Rd. Preliminary information indicates that Michael Kelso attempted to kill the victim by firing his pistol at her numerous times, missing her and hitting the dwelling behind her; nearly hitting several people inside, including children. Multiple rounds entered the dwelling, nearly hitting a porta-crib, and kids. Kelso was tracked down to a residence at the 4100 block of Huth Dr. by the Gang & Violent Crimes Unit Detectives, where he then fled on foot. A K9 unit conducted a track locating him, where he fled again and was later apprehended. During the arrest, Kelso was belligerent spiting in an officer’s face. Besides the onsite charges, Kelso also had multiple warrants for his arrest.

Preliminary Charges: Attempted Murder, Level 1 Felony
Preliminary Charges: Crim Reck Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling, Level 5 Felony
Preliminary Charges: Battery-Bodily Waste, Level 6 Felony
Preliminary Charges: Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor
