Woman airlifted after Steuben County snowmobile crash

ANGOLA, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Conservation Officers say they are investigating a Christmas Day snowmobile crash that left one women with extensive injuries.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Law Enforcement, dispatchers received a 911 call at 12:39 p.m. from 40-year-old Chad Straw of Angola. He said he was the driver of a snowmobile that crashed on County Road 600 West in Steuben County.  Straw said his passenger, a woman,  was unresponsive.

Steuben County EMS, the Angola Fire Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department responded and 31-year-old Kyrie E. Kopf of Angola was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment.  DNR officials say she suffered extensive head injuries.

Conservation Officers met with the victims at the hospital and began an investigation at the accident scene.

Neither Straw or Kopf were wearing a helmet.

The cause is still under investigation.
