FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum located at 2122 O’Day Road, has announced that it will be open Veterans Day from 11 am to 4 pm, Monday November 11th to honor veterans from all services and conflicts.
There will be an honor ceremony starting at 11am in the Pavilion. Chaplain Marc Tjaden will start the ceremony with prayer, followed by Landon Porter, Field Representative from Congressman Jim Bank’s Office. Greg Bedford Commander of the local Shrine & Museum will also speak. Veterans can tour the Museum and the Memorial grounds. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. All veterans and their families are invited to attend.
According to Commander Greg Bedford, “ We will be selling Memory Bricks for the Memorial Chapel Honor Wall and the Viet Nam Walkway to the Viet Nam Memorial. Profits from the sale of bricks will help support the local Shrine & Museum.” Bedford noted “what a great way to leave your veteran’s legacy than by honoring him or her with a lasting gift!” All bricks can be personalized with the veteran’s name and service dates plus can be customized with graphics and logos. Orders can be placed online or order forms can be picked up at the Shrine or by contacting the Shrine at 260-267-5022.
The Veterans National Shrine & Museum will launch a new website on Veterans Day. The new site will have many new features including better navigation tools, photographs, calendar of events, history and background on the Shrine plus articles of interest. The new site can be found here
The Shrine will also unveil a transportation vehicle that will have new graphics and paint job to always remind veterans that they will never be forgotten.
The Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum will be open by appointment only after November 11th and will be closed during the winter months for remodeling and special projects. Re-opening is scheduled for the spring of 2020. For more information contact the Shrine at 260-267-5022.
