FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that two people were hurt in a single-vehicle crash on the city’s northeast side Saturday night.
Around 11:15 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Rothman Road and Denise Drive and found an adult male trapped in the driver’s seat of the car. He was removed from the vehicle by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
Police also found an adult woman in the passenger’s seat. Paramedics transported both to a nearby hospital in life-threatening condition. Police said the woman is now listed in serious condition, but the driver has life-threatening injuries.
Police say they think speed was a contributing factor when the driver likely lost control and left the roadway before hitting a decorative guardrail and tree on the south side of Rothman Road.
Rothman Road closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated. The roadway has since reopened.

On Saturday, 08/12/2023, at approximately 11:15 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Rothman Road and Denise Drive reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Witnesses reported one of the victims was pinned inside the vehicle. Officers arrived and observed the crash involved a single passenger car. They located a male/adult pinned in the driver’s seat and a female/adult in the front passenger seat. The male victim was extricated from the vehicle by the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Upon arriving at the hospital the female passenger was upgraded to serious condition by a physician. The male driver remains in life-threatening condition.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was westbound on Rothman Road when the driver lost control and left the roadway. After leaving the roadway the vehicle struck a decorative guardrail and a tree on the south side of Rothman Road. Investigators reported speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Rothman Road is closed to all traffic between Sunny Lane and Denise Drive while investigators process the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
