Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that two people’s deaths at a local hotel were in a murder-suicide.
The Allen County Coroner identified the two people Wednesday after police found them a day before at the Quality Inn on W. Washington Center Road.
The coroner says Melissa Trevino, 22, was shot in the head by Dominic Norman Culjan III, also 22, before he turned the gun on himself.
The cause of Culjan’s death was also a gunshot wound, the coroner determined, and his manner of death was suicide.
Their deaths are still under investigation.
The FWPD released the following:
On May 16th, 2023 at approximately 1247 hrs., the FWPD responded to an unknown problem of two people down inside of the hotel room. Both parties were pronounced deceased by TRAA. The FWPD Homicide Unit along with Crime Scene technicians investigated the incident. The coroner’s ruling of both deaths as a homicide-suicide were consistent with the homicide unit’s investigation.

The autopsies have been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the two individuals found deceased within the Quality Inn in the 1700 block of West Washington Center Road, in Fort Wayne, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at approximately 12:45 hours. The decedents were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
They have been positively identified as Melissa Trevino female, Hispanic, 22 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Dominic Norman Culjan III, male Asian, 22 years of age from Fort Wayne Indiana.
Melissa Trevino’s Cause of Death has been determined to be a Gunshot Wound, and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Melissa Trevino is the 12th Homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2023. Dominic Norman Culjan III’s Cause of Death has been determined to be a Gunshot Wound, and the Manner of Death is Suicide. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that officers are investigating after two people were found dead inside a local hotel.
Officers were called to the Quality Inn on W. Washinton Center just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Not many details were released but the FWPD says that the homicide unit responded and is handling the investigation.
The identities of the deceased have not been released.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Washington Center Rd. regarding an unknown problem in which two people were reported unconscious. Officers responded and located two people deceased inside of a room. The homicide unit responded and began an investigation which is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the FWPD Investigative Division at 427-1201. The FWPD was assisted by the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, FWPD Crime Scene, TRAA, FWFD, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
