UPDATE (January 8, 2021):
The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a crash early Thursday morning.
The following was released:
“The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified, and made notifications to the next of kin of the deceased individuals that were involved in a motor vehicle crash at I 469 & I 69, mile marker 315D ramp, in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at about 03:55 hours, Thursday, January 7, 2021. They have been identified as Elizabeth Mae Davies, female, white, age 35, of Antwerp, Ohio and Aaron Michael Mathis, male, white, and age 33, of Antwerp, Ohio.
Elizabeth Mae Davies was a passenger in a vehicle that left the roadway, rolling & flipping before coming to a rest in the ditch, and Aaron Michael Mathis was a the operator of the motor vehicle. Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
For both Elizabeth Mae Davies and Aaron Michael Mathis, the Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle Crash, and the Manner of Death is Accident.
Elizabeth Mae Davies is the 4th traffic fatality, while Aaron Michael Mathis is the 5th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2021.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say that they still investigating after two people are died in a single-vehicle crash at I-469 and I-69 close to Auburn Road.
It is reported that police believe speed could have contributed to the crash.
FWPD officials released the following just before 6 a.m. Thursday:
“On Thursday, 01/07/2021, at approximately 3:55 AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the area of I-469 and I-69 reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers located the crash on the westbound I-469 ramp leading to southbound I-69 at the 31 mile marker for I-469. The male/adult driver and female/adult front seat passenger were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The two victims were the sole occupants of the vehicle.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on the I-469 ramp preparing to go southbound onto I-69. The vehicle left the roadway and flipped at least once before coming to rest on its top. Investigators reported speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Travel lanes on the ramp with be restricted while Investigators process the scene. One lane on the ramp will remain open to traffic for the morning commute.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victims.”
