FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Three Rivers Festival Board of Directors and the Parade Committee announced that Theoplis Smith III will be this year’s Grand Marshal.
As an active member of his community, Smith is deeply involved in promoting art and culture in the Fort Wayne area.
He serves on the board of the Downtown Improvement District, working to improve the city’s urban environment and promote economic growth.
Additionally, he sits on the board of the Public Art Commission appointed by Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, supporting the development and installation of public art.
Representatives of the TRF released the following:
President John Nichter was enthused in this year’s Grand Marshal decision, “In fitting with the theme of this year’s Parade, United through the Arts, Theoplis, is a perfect example of the talent we have right here in Fort Wayne and the region”.
Smith’s latest murals can be found at Electric Works, named the Project of the Year site. His work has been recognized on a national level, as it was displayed at the Academy Motion Pictures Museum, home of the Oscars, alongside award-winning director Spike Lee.
Theoplis has a strong following of enthusiastic art collectors who appreciate his innovative approach to the formal aspects of his work. His art showcases a blend of traditional portraiture, popular culture, and comic book influences. Recently, Smith’s work was featured on PBS NewsHour, highlighting his contribution to the art scene in Indiana.
