Starbucks to Open 85 ‘Community Stores’ in Rural and Urban Areas

Starbucks is looking to bring its coffee shops to poorer neighborhoods. In a press release, the company said it plans to open or remodel 85 stores by 2025 in various rural and urban communities across the U.S. Each location will hire local staff and will include community event spaces.

This new push will bring the number of “Community Stores” from 14 to around 100 since Starbucks initially announced the program in 2015.

Starbucks says these stores reflect the company’s belief of “responsible capitalism” and so the drinks will be sold for a lower price there. Some view the move as calculated, while others see it as Starbucks really trying to do something good.
