Drugs, guns, explosive devices found in raid of Fort Wayne home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Vice and Narcotics Division announced the result of a raid that uncovered explosive devices, drug dealing, and the arrest of a violent felon.

According to police, they served a warrant on Wednesday around 2 p.m. at 1728 ½ High Street. Members of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Vice & Narcotics Division, Emergency Services Team and Hazardous Devices Unit were part of the raid. Detectives received information that the person living at 1728 ½ High Street was dealing narcotics, had a large number of firearms and was in possession of explosive devices. Detectives conducted an investigation and received information that lead to this search warrant.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop of the Defendant, Shawn M. Bacon in front of his residence prior to the service of the search warrant. During this stop Mr. Bacon was found to be in possession of a fully loaded stolen .38 caliber Taurus revolver and was taken into custody without incident. Police say Bacon is a serious violent felon and is prohibited from ever owning a firearm.

Upon serving the search warrant at 1728 ½ High Street, numerous items of evidence were recovered. Nine handguns and 13 long guns (rifles/shotguns) were seized, with one of the handguns, an H&K 9mm pistol had previously been reported stolen. A TASER stun gun and a ballistic bullet resistant vest were also recovered. Detectives located and seized 550.4 grams of Methamphetamine, 106.5 grams of Crack Cocaine, 88.8 grams of Powder Cocaine, 174.5 grams of Heroin, 1,273.7 grams of Marijuana, along with other drug paraphernalia. The approximate street value of these drugs exceeds $100,000.

Bacon is a convicted felon, with previous felony convictions for Robbery (03-17-2000), Dealing Cocaine (10-03-2011), Robbery (03-17-2000), Possession of a Controlled Substance (11-1-1999), and Burglary (05-09-1997).

The explosive devices recovered were described as two 6” x 1” pipe bombs with a green fuse and a large 12” x 6” 64oz “Bubba Keg” also with a green fuse. These items appeared to be working devices. These devices were recovered and documented by member of the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit.
During this investigation we were assisted by Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), Fort Wayne Animal Control and Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code.
Shawn Bacon is now charged with the following:
Dealing Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony)
Dealing Cocaine (Crack) With Prior Conviction (Level 2 Felony)
Dealing Cocaine (Powder Cocaine) With Prior Conviction (Level 2 Felony)
Dealing a Narcotic Drug (Heroin) (Level 2 Felony)
Dealing Marijuana (Level 2 Felony)
Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Level 4 Felony)
Theft/Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Level 4 Felony)
2 Counts Serious Violent Felon Possessing/Manufacturing Explosive
Device/Bomb (Level 5 Felony)
Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony)
