GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in Grant County are trying to figure out what led to a crash that killed a woman and left her two children trapped in the car on Monday.
Emergency responders found the vehicle at West 4000 block of County Road 300 South, according to a release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Concerned citizens and first responders attempted life-saving measures on 41-year-old Maria Evans of Sims. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The children were removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital but later transferred for further treatment.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said they believe the children had non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are still trying to figure out what led to the crash and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Officials released the following:
On August 14, 2023, the Grant County Central Dispatch Center began receiving calls of a motor vehicle crash in the West 4000 block of county road 300 South. As emergency responders traveled to the scene, dispatch notified them that the driver of the vehicle was unresponsive and that two small children were also in the vehicle and possibly entrapped.
First responders arrived on the scene as well as concerned citizens who began life-saving measures on the driver. Unfortunately, those measures were unsuccessful, and the driver, Maria Evans, 41, of Sims, Indiana, was pronounced dead on the scene. The two children were transported by ambulance to Marion Health and then transferred to an Indianapolis area hospital for further treatment. It is believed the children had non-life-threatening injuries due to the crash.
