No soda tax for Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indianapolis will not be adding a penny-per-ounce tax on sodas and sugary drinks.

A city-county commission yesterday scuttled the idea. Councilor Jared Evans introduced the tax plan, but said after yesterday’s failure that it was someone else’s idea.

Supporters of a soda tax in Indianapolis say it would generate $47 million dollars a year.

Soda taxes in other cities have either proven to be extremely unpopular or underperformed on raising money.
