McComb Family Foundation funds full Honor Flight taking off Wednesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Honor Flight Northeast Indiana (HFNEI) will celebrate its 32nd flight to Washington D.C. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. This is a celebration marking 10 years since the first Honor Flight from Fort Wayne, Indiana took place May 13, 2009, with 27 veterans.

Due to a generous donation, the McComb Family Foundation is the proud sponsor of Honor Flight #32. The family members include Walter and Jean McComb; David and Cheryl McComb; David McComb, Jr.; and Douglas McComb.

David McComb states: “On behalf of the McComb Family Foundation we are very honored to sponsor our veteran heroes going to Washington D.C. for a very meaningful day. We will be transporting over 186 veterans, guardians and support staff.”

Honor Flight #32 currently consists of a total of 84 veterans: 3 WWII veterans, 5 Post WWII, 39 Korea veterans, 32 Cold War veterans and 5 Vietnam veterans. To date, 2,288 veterans have been transported to Washington by Honor Flight Northeast Indiana to reflect upon the memorials built in their honor.

Veterans and volunteer guardians will gather at the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard at 4:30 a.m. with take-off projected to be at 6:40 a.m. Returning home, the community is encouraged to patriotically welcome the veterans in the Main Terminal of the Fort Wayne International Airport the evening of May 22nd. Return time is tentative but expected to be at approximately 9:00 p.m. More information regarding the public’s participation and return timing will be shared on the group’s Facebook page at HFNEI.

Honor Flight Northeast Indiana President, Dennis Covert, states, “The entire HFNEI staff is grateful for the community support we have received over the last ten years. While Honor Flights are dedicated to the veterans who have served our country in the various branches of the armed forces, Honor Flight #32 is made possible because of a donation from the McComb Family Foundation.”

95% of all donations go directly towards the veterans’ trips. Honor Flight NE Indiana, Inc. is a volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
