Man in custody after Lillian Avenue standoff

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A man wanted in Fort Wayne for domestic battery is in jail after an hours-long standoff with police.

The man holed up in a home in a neighborhood north of downtown yesterday afternoon. He had some children with him.

The man, who has not yet been identified, had a warrant out for his arrest and was said to be armed in the house on the 500 block of Lillian Avenue, just off Wells Street.

In the end, no one was hurt and the man surrendered to Fort Wayne Police without incident.

FWPD officials released the following:

The Fort Wayne Police Department was called to 500 Lillian Av reference a domestic situation with the suspect having a warrant for his arrest. When officers arrived the female stated the male was inside the home with several children and he was armed. Officers attempted several times to get the subject to exit the house. He refused. Negotiators, Emergency Services and Aerial Support Units were sent to that location.

After several hours, two children finally emerged the residence, unharmed, but the suspect still refused to cooperate. Shortly before 5:30pm, officers introduced a chemical agent into the home to motivate the suspect to exit the home peacefully. This was successful and the suspect finally surrendered.

Detectives are currently interviewing the suspect and any charges will be released when appropriate.
