Indianapolis bans pet store sales of dogs, cats, rabbits

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Pet stores in Indianapolis have to stop selling dogs, cats, and rabbits by May 1 if they opened after September 1, 2021 and by May 1, 2025 if they have been open longer than that.

The Indianapolis City-County Council voted Monday to approve the ban.

The first offense of the new law would bring a $500 fine.

Indianapolis is now the 14th location in the state to enact the ban.
