Garrett man hospitalized after falling asleep at the wheel

DEKAB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Authorities in Dekalb County say that a Garrett man suffered a head injury when he crashed his Ford
Explorer Monday afternoon after allegedly falling asleep while driving.

Police said 73-year-old Thomas Cook was heading eastbound on the 1700 block of County Road 60 when his SUV left the roadway, continued through a ditch, and over a driveway.

Police say the 2008 Ford then struck a patch of trees and came to rest against them.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Cook told officers he had fallen asleep before crashing.

Cook was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a head injury. Police say his vehicle was a total loss.
