FWPD: Man takes his own life after domestic violence call

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police are raising the alarm after two residents took their own lives in one week.
FWPD officials say the latest death occurred Thursday morning on Maplecrest Road.

Officials say that at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to 4035 Willshire Court for the report of a domestic dispute involving a firearm. A family member reported that an adult male left the residence with a gun in his hand and they were concerned he was having mental health issues.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description given by family a short time later in the area of Maplecrest Road and Brian Drive. Officers initiated a traffic stop to speak with the man and just prior to making contact, he shot himself in the head.

Fort Wayne police released the following statement along with their official account of Thursday morning’s events:

“Sadly, this is the second suicide this week. We again would encourage anyone who is having mental health issues, or who knows a family member that is having mental health issues to reach out for help. Please call 911 as our officers are specially trained to deal with these issues or to guide you in the right direction to resources in our community.”
