FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Farmers Market will have a new home. Representatives say that the market will move to the Franciscan Center while renovations are done to their current space in Parkview Field’s Lincoln Event Center.
The opening day for the market in the new space will be October 7.
Representatives released the following:
We are proud to announce that we have obtained a new central location for the Ft. Wayne’s Farmers Market Indoor season. We found out earlier in the spring that Parkview Field’s Lincoln, Financial Event Center needed to undergo extensive roof repair and would not be able to host us. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found such a willing partner, The Franciscan Center organization. Their efforts in serving the community aligns with our mission and we are excited to partner with them.
We really believe this new location will serve us well in the interim. Tony Ley, the director, explained that the rest of the building will be used as The Franciscans Center’s new location opening later this year. The building at 500 E State Street will allow us to expand since it is almost double the size of the Lincoln Financial Event Center. I can also appreciate that it has many great features such as ample paved parking with easy access to the building, it is on a prominent East/West street and North/South thoroughfares in Fort Wayne. During good weather, I hope the community will also take advantage of the river greenway that intersects several trails at this location. This building sits on the edge of several large residential neighborhoods. Opening day will take place October 7th and operate until May 11th, at that time we will return to Electric Works for the summer market.
Over the history of our market, it has become increasingly apparent that our customers appreciate the quality of our vendors and the Year round harvest to their tables. We respect our customers for utilizing and seeing us as a grocery store to shop weekly at, but also the customers who come for the relaxing atmosphere and fresh food as a bonus. We have always offered a valuable resource to the community with an ample food supply from our vendors. It is our pleasure to continually organize such a fantastic and unique shopping experience regardless of your needs.
We are also thankful for the partnerships and services our community partners provide to the community through us. Parkview Community outreach with their Veggie RX community programs and St. Joseph Foundation who has coordinated our involvement with the SNAP Double Up program for our customers.
We appreciate all the assistance that Parkview Field and Electric Works has provided, we look forward to our continued relationship in the future.
…”The Northside Neighborhood Association is excited to welcome Ft Wayne’s Farmers Market to our area! With no grocery stores in the neighborhood, this new location will allow our residents and friends close access to not just food, but great LOCAL food! Being at such a central location as the former Kelley Chevrolet property will benefit pedestrians, bicyclists and bus-riders as well. While they’re visiting, we hope that those traveling to our corner of the city will explore all the Northside Neighborhood has to offer such as the restaurants and shops of East State Village and disc golf at Northside Park!”… Lori Strombaugh
Fort Wayne’s Farmers Market appreciates strategic partnerships and welcomes any support for this community initiative.
