Fort Wayne Fire Department quarantines due to COVID-19 exposure

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say that due to two firefighters testing positive for COVID-19, the approximately 45 firefighters known to be exposed to them over multiple shifts have been placed in quarantine for two weeks from the date they were exposed. Public safety will not be compromised and the FWFD will continue to provide lifesaving care and responses.

Five of the 18 fire stations have two apparatus available, but if there is not enough manpower at a particular station, sometimes only one apparatus will be in service for an emergency run.

Firefighters who were not exposed have been offered overtime to fill the open positions, but until an entire station has to be closed, the overtime will not be mandatory.
