FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Sunday, June 14th is not only National Flag Day and the birthday of the United States Army but also the day the Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum in Fort Wayne will be hosting a flag retirement ceremony at 2122 O’Day Road at 2 pm.
In conjunction with the Allen County Council of Veterans Organization and local boy scouts from area troops, they will be retiring old American flags that have been collected at local Legion Posts and donated at the Shrine for proper disposal.
Organizers say that if you have an American Flag that is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by fire.
Anyone wishing to retire a used flag that no longer can be flown properly or have American flags that are non-serviceable, you can drop off those flag(s) to the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum prior to or the day of the ceremonial fire.
Call the Veterans Memorial Shrine & Museum at 260-267-5022 for more information on Flag Retirement Day.
