Officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department have given the following update regarding the shooting of an eight-year-old boy while he was in his own home early Sunday morning:
“Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Division would like to report that the 8 year old that was shot early Sunday morning has been upgraded to stable condition. We are extremely happy that the child is doing well. However, this does not negate the seriousness of this incident. This type of incident should never be a community standard which we accept as commonplace. We are actively and aggressively investigating this shooting and would appreciate any help from the community. If you have any information please call 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.”
ORIGINAL STORY (January 12, 2020):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An eight-year-old boy in Fort Wayne is fighting for his life after someone shot into his house.
It happened early yesterday morning at a home on the city’s east side. Fort Wayne Police say someone fired a shot that went through the wall of a home on the 3200 block of Logan Avenue before and hitting the young boy in his chest.
Police were called around 2 a.m. and when they arrived they found the boy suffering a gunshot wound to his shoulder and chest area.
Paramedics transported the juvenile to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, his condition was downgraded to life-threatening by a physician.
Fort Wayne Police interviewed a number of people inside the home but didn’t say what they learned.
