FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department is thanking demonstrators for another peaceful day on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, there was only one incident and it was heat-related. It has been quiet wall week as protests continued in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Gatherings over the weekend resulted in around 100 arrests and property throughout downtown Fort Wayne being damaged.
However, those in attendance this week have struck a largely positive tone. Mayor Henry and local officers are expected to walk with protesters on Thursday in an act of solidarity.
The FWPD released the following regarding Wednesday’s demonstrations:
“Day 6 of downtown protests were once again peaceful. About 125 protesters gathered on the courthouse lawn throughout the day. They were peaceful and no arrests were made. Once again the Fort Wayne Police Department would like to thank our community members for peacefully protesting.”
