City Council approves new parking meters, rates set to increase

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS)- You could be paying more to park downtown.  City Council approved the purchase of all new parking meters.  Fort Wayne will buy the 800 meters at a cost of nearly $800,000.  That cost will be passed along for parking.  Rates could increase up to $1.25 an hour from the current rate of 50 cents. Those rates could fluctuate for different areas of downtown, days of the week, or to align with events. A separate vote will be scheduled to determine the final rate increase. The new meters will accept credit cards and be accessible through a smartphone app.  The meters are also solar powered.
