Celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Americans across the country will celebrate and honor the legacy of the civil rights leader with acts of community and civic service.  King’s legacy includes the iconic “I have a dream” speech, given August 28th, 1963.  According to USA Today, the now legendary speech wasn’t prepared, Dr. King improvised.  His initial draft didn’t contain the words at all.

Martin Luther King Day was first signed into law by President Reagan in 1983.  It is celebrated the third Monday of January every year.  This year, it happens to fall on Dr. King’s birthday.  He would have been 89 years old today.
