(ADAMS) – Some users of the learning platform Canvas are still reporting problems today after a massive breach by a hacking group caused widespread disruptions at schools across the country.
Students trying to access the software on Thursday, many of them dealing with finals, were met with a message from the hacking group Shiny-Hunters claiming responsibility.
The group was threatening to leak data held by Instructure – the parent company of Canvas – including student names, ID numbers, and email addresses for an estimated 275 million users across nearly 9,000 educational institutions worldwide.
The group gave schools until May 12th to negotiate before releasing the data. As of last check, most users reported being able to access Canvas again.
