FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says a motorcyclist died following a crash with a semi on Thursday on the 5300 block of Illinois Road. The FWPD says just before 4 p.m., officers responded to Illinois Road close to Getz. Police say the semi was pulling onto Illinois when the motorcycle hit it.
Both caught fire. The road was closed for hours while police investigated.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck that occurred in the 5300 block of Illinois Road.
At approximately 3:54 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash near 5300 Illinois Road. Preliminary investigation indicates that a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Illinois Road collided with a semi-truck that was pulling out from a private drive at that location. Following the collision, both the motorcycle and the semi-truck caught fire.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased at 4:01 p.m. The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Currently, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
