FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say they have arrested 19-year-old Kyzier Powell for allegedly shooting another person Tuesday morning on the city’s southeast side.
The victim shows up at a hospital emergency room with the injuries, prompting the investigation. Powell is facing preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness by shooting into an inhabited dwelling.
The FWPD released the following:
On March 17, 2026, at approximately 1134 hours, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a local hospital in reference to a shooting investigation. Officers arrived and located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Detectives with the FWPD Homicide Unit responded and conducted a criminal investigation.
During the investigation, FWPD Homicide Detectives identified Kyzier Powell, 19 years old, as a suspect in the shooting. At approximately 1235 hours, the
Homicide Task Force was initiated and Kyzier Powell was located in the 4000 block of Robinwood Drive in Fort Wayne. Powell was taken into custody without incident and was preliminarily charged with Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Recklessness – Shooting into an inhabited dwelling.
Powell was transported to the Allen County Jail.
