The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a 3-vehicle crash involving a head-on collision that occurred over the weekend. On 01/24/2026 just before 6:00 pm, Sheriff’s deputies and other emergency responders were dispatched to the area of US 20 near Silver Lake in rural Pleasant Township for a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash with possible entrapment. The 911 caller believed that 3 vehicles were involved.
When initial deputies and first responders arrived, they found a white passenger vehicle in the westbound lane with heavy front-end damage and a bronze SUV overturned in a ditch on the north side of US 20 adjacent to the white passenger car. There was also a blue Jeep to the west near CR 370 W off of the south side of US 20 facing east. The driver of the passenger car and the SUV were both trapped inside their vehicles. Rescue crews from the Angola Fire Department were able to quickly extricate the 2 trapped drivers so they could receive emergency medical treatment.
The Steuben County FACT Team was called to the scene to assist due to the seriousness of the crash. Preliminary crash investigation indicated that a blue 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by 17-year-old Landen Lane-Granger of Angola, Indiana was traveling westbound on US 20 approaching CR 370 W when the Jeep went left of the center line into the path of an eastbound white 2014 Hyundai Azera driven by 28-year-old Jaci Miller of Jones, Michigan causing the two vehicles to collide nearly head-on. Miller’s vehicle was then pushed into the path of another westbound vehicle.
The third vehicle was a bronze 2010 Honda CR-V driven by 46-year-old James Isfalt of Sturgis, Michigan. Miller’s vehicle collided with the Honda CR-V nearly head-on causing the Honda to travel off of the north side of US 20 and overturn. Once Miller and Isfalt were freed from their vehicles, they were treated and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Steuben County EMS due to the seriousness of the crash. Lane-Granger was treated and transported to Cameron Hospital also by Steuben County EMS with a possible broken leg. Miller complained of pain all over and Isfalt had severe trauma to his lower leg.
Seatbelts were in use and airbags did deploy at the time of the crash. The roadway was snow covered with snow falling. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. The crash closed US 20 for approximately 2 hours. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Angola Fire, Angola Police, Steuben County EMS, and the Indiana State Police.
