The new year brings exciting news! Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) is thrilled to share that they have received a $10,000 Agile Grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne through the Clarke Endowment Fund in support of their Pet Retention program in the community of Fort Wayne, Indiana. With funding from the grant award, FWACC can continue its efforts to provide pet retention assistance to pet owners in Allen County. The program funding was depleted of resources in the fall of last year.
“We see pet owners in the community or visiting the shelter daily that are struggling to keep their animals protected, fed, or who are dealing with other medical or behavioral issues. We want to do more than just educate; we want to help fix the problem. Thanks to the grant award from Community Foundation, we can once again offer assistance with some of these concerns and help reduce those households needing to relinquish pets due to a temporary hardship,” says Director Amy-Jo Sites.
Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control does all they can to keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter. That includes assisting pet owners who may be going through a rough patch. The Pet Retention program is funded by grants and donations.
The Community Foundation grant award will ensure support such as vaccines, microchips, pet ID tags, spay/neuter and other limited medical or behavioral services can be offered to those who show financial hardship or other need. Community resources such as where to find low-cost wellness care, low-cost spay/neuter, pet food assistance, and behavioral help can be located on the website at fwacc.org under Community Resources.
