FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says a woman was able to escape with her two pets early Sunday morning after a fire broke out in the attic of her Glenwood Avenue home.
Firefighters were called just before 8 a.m. to the residence on the 1200 block of Glenwood Avenue, close to Kentucky Avenue.
Once there, they found smoke coming from the attic. Firefighters were able to put out the fire in about 20 minutes, but the Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says there was extensive damage to the home.
No injuries were reported. Investigators determined the cause was an electrical issue.
The FWFD released the following:
The first arriving unit reported smoke coming from the attic area. Firefighters were able to get into the house quickly and begin extinguishing the fire. The occupant, who was asleep at the time of the fire, reported hearing a loud crackling noise upstairs. When she went upstairs, she found smoke and immediately evacuated with her two pets. The fire was brought under control rapidly, but the fire caused extensive damage to the attic and second floor area. No injuries were reported at the time of this reporting. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature. Fire fighters were assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP and NCE.
