PUTNAM CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police have seized an estimated $7 million worth of cocaine from a semi in Putnam County on Saturday. They stopped the truck around 1:30 p.m. on Interstate 70 for a routine Department of Transportation inspection.
The officer got a K-9 to search the vehicle and found 309 pounds of cocaine in the area of the truck where the driver sleeps. The truck was heading to Richmond from Joplin, Missouri. Two California men were arrested.
Indiana State Police released the following:
Saturday, January 3, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an Indiana State Police Trooper stopped a blue International semi tractor-trailer on I-70 at the 41 mile-marker eastbound, for a routine DOT compliance inspection. During conversations with the driver, criminal indicators were observed and a positive alert from an Indiana State Police K-9 led to a probable cause search.
During the search, the trooper found 309 pounds of cocaine in the sleeper berth of the truck.
The two occupants were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail. Both are being charged with dealing narcotics, a Level 2 Felony, and ICE deportation holds were placed on each of them.
The semi tractor-trailer was enroute from Joplin, Missouri, to Richmond, Indiana.
Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott emphasized the importance of the Indiana State Police’s commitment to full-time interdiction patrols, which work to keep illegal drugs off the road and out of our communities. This investigation and seizure was conducted by a full-time interdiction trooper from the Drug Enforcement Section.
The estimated street value of the cocaine is seven million dollars.
