GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be deputies. In recent weeks, the Sheriff’s Office says it has received multiple reports of individuals impersonating deputies and demanding money, often threatening victims with arrest if they do not comply. Scammers have attempted to collect payments through wire transfers, gift cards, and other untraceable methods.

Sheriff Garcia emphasizes that no deputy or employee of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office will ever call to demand money, payment, or personal financial information.
“Our priority is protecting our community, and that includes making sure people are not taken advantage of by these scams,” said Sheriff Garcia. “If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and contact us directly.”
What Residents Should Do
• Hang up immediately if someone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office demands money.
• Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone.
• Be aware that the Sheriff’s Office phone number may appear on caller ID even when the call is fraudulent.
• Verify suspicious calls by contacting the Sheriff’s Office directly at 765-662-9836 office.
• Report scam attempts to 765-668-8168.
The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to share this warning with friends, family, and neighbors, especially seniors who are often targeted.
