MUNCIE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Muncie. A suspect was reportedly shot by Muncie Police near East 23rd Street and South Mock Avenue around 8 p.m. Sunday.
No officers were injured. The Indiana State Police (ISP) is leading the investigation.
Indiana State Police released the following:
At the request of the Muncie Police Department, detectives from the Indiana State Police Pendleton Post are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Muncie.
At approximately 6:23 p.m. on August 3, 2025. Muncie Police officers were dispatched to reports of a shots-fired call near the intersection of 23rd Street and Mock Avenue. As officers arrived, they heard numerous active gunshots in the immediate area. Officers then encountered an adult male armed with a handgun.
During the encounter, a shot was fired by police, striking the individual. Officers on the scene immediately rendered medical aid. The individual was transported by emergency medical personnel to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Indiana State Police Troopers, Detectives, and Crime Scene Investigators are working to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and to preserve all evidence related to the case.
The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld at this time pending positive identification and notification of the family.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
