FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A smooth transition is planned as students head to new schools.
FWCS says that moving from one school building to another in sixth and ninth grades can be an anxious time for many students. Entering kindergarten is also a big adjustment for young students.
To help make these transitions easier, students will get to visit their new schools during Transition Day and Kindergarten Conferences. Sixth graders entering middle school and ninth graders entering high school will participate in Transition Day from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 29.
FWCS released the following:
During Transition Day, students will have the chance to meet their teachers, find their lockers, navigate their schedules, and practice other daily routines. Ninth graders will also learn about the Freshman Schools of Success and Freshman Seminar.
Incoming kindergarten students will meet their teachers during Kindergarten Conferences, which will be held at individually scheduled times throughout the day on Friday, Aug. 1. Parents are encouraged to participate in these transition events.
At the middle and high school levels, parents can learn about school procedures and expectations. For Kindergarten Conferences, parents actively participate alongside their children.
Just like students, parents can feel nervous about their child moving to the next grade level. Spending time in the building and getting to know teachers, administrators and support staff helps ease those concerns.
The first day of school for FWCS students is Thursday, Aug. 7.
