ALBION, Ind. (ADAMS) – Black Pine Animal Sanctuary opens for the season this Friday, May 2nd.
Three new animal residents have come to live at Black Pine for the rest of their lives since last season. Akila, a young bobcat, was surrendered by a private owner in December. Akila was slowly introduced to resident bobcat Chester, and the two are currently residing happily together. Watching the two become acquainted was such a relief to staff and volunteers after seeing Chester go through a mourning process after the loss of his habitat-mate, Evaki, in 2024.
This month 2 new reptiles also took refuge at Black Pine when their owner lost housing and needed to rehome all of her pets. Geoffrey, a Sand Boa Constrictor and Barbara (Barbie,) a Bearded Dragon are still currently in quarantine, but they will be moved in to their permanent habitats by the end of May.
