FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Mayor Sharon Tucker welcomed the Fort Wayne Fire Department’s newest recruit class on Monday to their first day of training at the Public Safety Academy. There are 23 FWFD recruits in the class. Additionally, three firefighters from the Huntington Fire Department will be part of the training.
The following was released:
26 percent of the FWFD’s 97th recruit class are in an ethnic minority group, including five males who identify as Black and one male who identifies as Hispanic or Latino. One female is also included in the class.
The recruits will participate in 23 weeks of training before their graduation day on July 25, 2025.
Participants will obtain the following seven certifications after completing the rigorous, hands-on training:
Fire Fighter I
Fire Fighter II
Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)
Hazardous Materials
Technical Rescue
FEMA National Incident Management System
Fire Apparatus Driver Operator

They’ve been called to make a positive and meaningful impact on our great community. I wish them well as they embark on a memorable journey,” said Mayor Tucker.
