FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police are looking for a suspect after a pedestrian was struck by an SUV on Covington Road Friday night close to Getz.
The FWPD said the individual stopped briefly but then fled.
The victim was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers are looking for a black SUV, no further details about the vehicle were released. Investigators are searching the area for video surveillance that may have captured the crash. Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Covington Rd just west of Getz Rd. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male laying in the road unconscious. Officers assisted with medical care until TRAA medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
Witnesses told officers they observed a dark colored SUV that had stopped and then took off westbound. Officers from the Fatal Accident Crash Team were requested to investigate the scene.
Investigators are searching the area for any video surveillance that may have captured the crash. If anyone has any information regarding the crash is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222, Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867 or on the P3 APP.
This investigation is being assisted by the FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team, Air Support Unit, Allen County Coroners Office, and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
