FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Two people and two dogs are safe after being rescued from a house fire on Fort Wayne’s southeast side.
Fort Wayne firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 3319 Winter Street just after 9 p.m. on Monday. When they got there, they found smoke coming from the attic.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished within about 20 minutes.
Firefighters rescued two people still inside the home and sheltered two dogs until Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control arrived to assist with their evacuation.
Both people were unharmed but were taken to the hospital for precautionary checks.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fort Wayne Firefighters responded to 3319 Winter Street on a reported house fire. Fire units arrived in 2 minutes and found moderate smoke from the attic area of the home. Further investigation found there to be fire in the attic. 2 people and 2 dogs were in the home on the fire departments arrival. Fire Crews assisted both people from the home. Crews were able to shelter both dogs until FW Animal Care and Control could assist fire crews in evacuating the dogs. Fire crews took 22 minutes to extinguish the fire. There was moderate fire, smoke and water damage to the home. The 2 people from the home were unharmed but transported a local hospital for further evaluation.
Fort Wayne Firefighters were assisted on scene by FW Animal Care and Control, FWPD, FW NCC, NIPSCO, AEP and TRAA.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at the time of reporting.
