FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says an arrest was made following an overnight crash that sent the driver to the hospital and a building with structural damage.
Police were called around 2:48 a.m. Wednesday morning to Maumee Avenue and Ohio Street, where a vehicle had struck a parked van and a vacant building. The force of the crash pushed the van into the building. Police located the driver, identified as 24-year-old Shivam Patel, and they were taken to the hospital. After being medically cleared Patel was transported to the Allen County Jail on OWI charges.

Shivam Patel was arrested for OWI after the FWPD was dispatched to a traffic accident Wednesday at roughly 2:48 am in the area of Maumee Ave. and Ohio St. Officers located two vehicles that were in a collision, and a damaged vacant building that one the of vehicles crashed into.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Shivam lost control of his vehicle, crashing into an unoccupied parked van, that was parked at 1300 Maumee Ave. The collision caused the van to be pushed into a vacant building, causing damage to both the structure and the vehicle. Shivam was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Once Shivam was medically cleared, he was transported to jail without incident.

Preliminary Charges: Operating While Intoxicated with Prior Conviction, Level 6 Felony and Operating While Intoxicated Endangerment, Class A Misdemeanor
