ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a wrong-way pickup on US 27 died in a fiery crash. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The driver of the other pickup in the crash is hospitalized in serious condition. A semi-truck crashed into both pickups just north of Flatrock Road – that driver was not hurt.
The truck that was heading the wrong way burst into flames after the impact, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. The crash remains under investigation.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On November 6, 2024, at approximately 6:12 P.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of U.S. 27 South, north of Flatrock Road, reference a crash involving three vehicles. Upon arrival, officers and fire department personnel located two pickup trucks and one semi tractor trailer involved.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a pickup truck was northbound on U.S. 27, in the southbound travel lanes, north of Flatrock Road. A second pickup truck involved was southbound on U.S. 27, in a southbound travel lane. The two pickup trucks collided, nearly head-on. A semi tractor trailer traveling southbound on U.S. 27, behind the second pickup truck, then collided with at least one of the pickup trucks involved. The semi went across the grass median and came to rest in the northbound travel lanes.
The pickup truck traveling northbound burst into flames after impact. The driver of that pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the second pickup truck (traveling southbound), was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was not injured.
This incident remains under investigation.
